Southampton City Council (SCC) has declared its commitment to improving the air quality of Southampton. One crucial step towards achieving this is to make improvements to Southampton's public electric car charging network, which the council is already undertaking. The council is also running a programme that lets Southampton taxi (and private hire) drivers and business van drivers trial EVs up until the end of May 2023 at half the rental charge. Furthermore, the council has made changes to its own vehicles, with approximately 50 EVs now a part of its fleet.

For instance, the council provides a 90% discount on any Southampton city centre season ticket for electric car users.
